The best part is you can take the family on an exciting adventure without spending a fortune. Get packing because here are 5 fun and cheap family adventures you can do this weekend.

 

Keep an eye on the Picnic Basket

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Breman, Georgia is about only about 45 miles from downtown Atlanta. Camping rates at Jellystone park start at about $22 and it includes most of the activities such as swimming and the playground. The park has several free and low cost activities to keep you busy all weekend including gem mining and a variety of scheduled activities such as pirate’s day or hunting dinosaur eggs. There are grills, picnic tables and fire rings so don’t forget the supplies for somores.

Get the Gold

Pine Mountain Gold Museum at Stockmar Park is about a ten minute drive from Jellystone Park and it is a great way to spend family time learning about the gold mining day. The museum has a nice picnic area so you can pack a lunch to enjoy while in between panning for gold and petting the animals at the live farm animal exhibit. The entrance fee to the museum is $5 for adults and $4 for children aged 5-12. There is also an additional fee of $5 per pan if you want to try your luck at panning for gemstones or gold.

Day of Imagination

Legoland discovery center in Atlanta is where you and your kids can let your imagination run wild. There is several fun attractions inside Legoland, such as the 4D Theater where you can watch Legos come to life or head over to Kingdom quest where you use lasers to try and rule the land. Order your tickets online for a reduced admission price into Legoland for only $12 for adults and children under 2 are free.

Gold and the Old West

The Old West Ghost Town and Rocky Branch Railroad is a fun way to show the kids how the gold miners lived. There are several fun activities at the Rocky Branch Railroad including a train ride and panning for gold or gemstones. Admission to the Old West Ghost town is $8, but if the kids go online, download the pictures of the train and cowboy, color the pictures and bring them to the park, you will get $1 off the admission price. There is also camping available at the Old West Ghost Town for $10 per site, per night. 

 

Something for Everyone

Fun Junction, about 15 minutes north of downtown Atlanta, has adventure for everyone in the family. The amusement center has both large and small rides, miniature golf, zip lines, go-carts and a lot more. There is no admission fee, but guests do need to buy 5 tickets to enter. There is a $5 parking fee, but you are given 5 tickets for parking. Each ticket cost $1 and the attractions vary in amount of tickets needed. However, the kid’s rides are only 1 ticket each and one of the most expensive attractions is the zip line which requires 5 tickets.
