Make your town into a community with fun events and activities


Want some fun ideas to bring fun into your community?  Here’s a month by month suggestions and links to help you.


Snow Slide – For those in the non- snow areas of the country, you can still enjoy wintery activity loved by all.
Glow walk/5k – Have a late evening run with participants decked out in glow sticks.
Do you have a place for an open mic night or Karaoke?  How about a Talent show?
Soup/Salad/Bingo with a movie matinee on MLK day.
Have a Game Show Trivia Night?

Town Garage Sale – centrally located spot can be “rented” to the community.  This could be a good way of kicking off a weekly/monthly Farmer’s Market (bi-annual?).
Car and Bike Show – another great get together is a local car show.  Have the locals show off their “Hot Rods”, classic cars and motorbikes (bi-annual?).  Have a silent auction to benefit a local charity.
Zombie Walk – Kick of the Walking Dead premiere with a walk of your own.
Arbor Day – work with local nurseries on making seedling for the community.  Have a special planting (a future live Christmas tree?) to honor the event.


Team sports parade – Have a parade celebrating your community’s youth and school sports teams with a parade honoring their dedication to teamwork.
Sports 5K – Have a 5k before the sports parade with proceeds going to the sports clubs.
Farmers Market / Food Truck days – Allow vendors to sell their locally made produce and products on a weekly/monthly basis until it gets cold.


Time to start a monthly “Screen on the Green” by showing G and PG movies (and old cartoons/movie shorts) projected onto a big screen.
Community Concerts – Allow local bands put on a show (monthly?).
Earth Day – Community wide clean-up of the town with a concert afterwards


Art/Photo Festival/Show – Show off the local talent with an Art Show and Festival that people can buy a favorite piece.  End with a silent auction to benefit a local charity.  Allow people to draw in chalk on the sidewalk.
BBQ & Blues Festival – Have a BBQ competition with the locals (sell tickets for bite size portions and end it with a blues concert.


“Touch a Truck” – Tow trucks, Cherry Pickers, or have the Fire department, Police, Medical bring down their vehicle for a unique festival.
Brown Bag Concert – During the week, have different performers give lunch time performances.
Disco Night – Have a DJ play 70’s Disco and Families dance.


4th of July parade –
“Fireworks in the Park” allow individuals fire legal fireworks in a designated area for all to see.
Dog Days of summer – Celebrate National Hot Dog Day, Dog Fest, and National Ice Cream Day with an eating contest.


Ice Slide – Can’t think of a better way to ward off the heat than with an Ice slide heat, then join it with a Beach Party.
Slip ‘n’ slide – Have your own slip’n’slide day for the young ones to play for a while.
Card Board Boat Race or a Bed Race - or


Beer/wine Festival – have an beer and wine tasting Festival for Oktoberfest (yes in Germany, Oktoberfest is in September)


Halloween parade – Have all the local mini ghouls and goblins trace down Main Street asking for candy, ending at a Trunk-n-Treat Fest where locals dress up the back of their car trunks, truck beds, or trailers in Halloween getup.
Ghost tours – If you don’t already have one, why not make up “scary” stories of the towns past and host one for the little ones.


Home Coming Festival – Have a Tailgating party with football on the big screen.
Chili (soup) Cook off – Now that it’s getting cooler, warm things up with samples of chili.


Christmas Parade – Celebrate the season with a parade.  It could end at the spot for a festival or tree lighting ceremony.  Remember to invite any local celebrities (radio, TV, Sports).
Christmas Festival – Bon fires, lighting the Christmas tree, Christmas Cantata, school orchestra, Have a place where people can make (for a small fee) ornaments, candy canes, ginger bread houses, decorate cookies, etc., Letter writing to Santa.  Sing carols.
Ice Skating Rink – Have an ice skating rick set up for the season
“Trees in the Park” – Ask businesses, schools, clubs, Churches, etc. to decorate Christmas trees in an area that will facilitate a festive stroll.
Christmas Jog 5k (shorter 1 miler?) – Have everyone dress up in their holiday outfit and award prizes for the “worst sweater”, “Most festive”, “loudest bells”  -
