Activities To Do With Your Family When You Visit Sandy Springs, GA

Sandy Springs, located just north of Atlanta is a wonderful city to visit with many affordable and fun activities to do with your family.  There are many museums, sunny warm beaches, hiking and cycling trails and festive activities.  A weekend to this delightful city is a great start but you will want to come back again and again to catch all the attractions.

High on the list of things to do is the Anne Frank Exhibition.  This is a great and powerful educational activity for the entire family.  There are over 600 photographs, exhibitions and a short video to keep everyone intrigued.

The Annual Chattahoochee River Summer Splash is held on a weekend in July.  Kayak, canoe or raft rentals are available to enjoy a 6 mile leisurely float down the river.  Afterwards, your family can enjoy a fun-filled afternoon of live music and food.

The two day Sandy Springs festival is held every year in September.  Children will love the Pet Parade with all types of pets and crazy costumes.  A petting zoo, hands-on crafts and pony rides will keep them entertained for hours.  Enjoy the amateur and professional live entertainment that is held throughout the 2 day event.

A visit to the beautiful Morgan Falls Overlook Park is a must.  Activities here are numerous and include playgrounds, hiking trails and gorgeous views.  Barbeque pits are available if you want to make a day of it and have a picnic.  There is also a dock to launch your boat to head out on the river to enjoy the wildlife.

The John Ripley Forbes Big Forest Preserve is a stunning 30 acre forest set in an urban setting.  There is a self-guided trail that educates visitors on reclaiming the land from a previous cotton farm.  The trail passes through a beautiful meadow with native plants, beautiful wildflowers and a meandering stream brimming with fish, insects and snails.  There is also a back-country trail system that is easily traversed.

Kids will love the Sandy Springs Funhouse.  There is something for everyone.  Toddlers have a soft play area that is easily watched over by parents.  The older kids can play laser tag and arcade games.  A time-out area is available to wind down and surf the internet or watch some television.

Getting to this cozy city away from the hustle and bustle of a large urban city is quite easy.  The two major highways, Georgia 400 and Interstate 285 intersect within the city along with four rapid rail stations throughout the area (www.itsmarta.com).
