Sometimes, going out on the town alone, without the kids can be a great way to spend some time. A date night in Atlanta might include a jaunt through various museums, seeing a bit of art and culture along the way. Of course, if you decide to do so, you may want to bring the kids along. If you must, teens are most likely to enjoy spending time on this type of trip. For fun date nights in Atlanta, consaider the following museums.

#1 - For a bit of fun, why not start with an exploration of The Fernbank Museum of Natural History? This museum allows you to walk through the history of Georgia. There are various exhibits including some that change regularly. There is an IMAX theater here with rotating movies on giant screens. You'll also want to check out the prehistoric dinosaur exhibit. It's hands on fun here. It's located on Clifton Road and is very affordable. There's even an IMAX martini bar (for an additional price) with a DJ and food.

#2 - High Museum of Art is a must-see if you have not been there previously. This museum, often just called, The High, has a beautiful and expansive collection of 19th and 20th century American art. This includes a large collection of African American art. In the past, it has offered various traveling exhibits, including some that come from Europe. Find out what is available by visiting the museum in person on Peachtree Street.

#3 - Perhaps you would like some quiet time together. Visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden and Piedmont Park on Piedmont Avenue. The park sits on a 187-acre historic property designed by the Olmsted Brothers. The garden itself covers 30 acres. You'll find indoor exhibits, as well as beautiful woodlands to explore. For an evening out walking in the garden, perhaps followed by dinner, this is the ideal choice.

#4 - If exploring is more your thing, consider a trip to the Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site just outside of Atlanta. For over 500 years, it has been the site of the Etowah River. You'll find exhibits here including artifacts from the area. The earthen mounds and riverbanks are beautiful, too. It's located on Indian Mounds Road.

#5 - Explore African American history at the APEX Museum on Auburn Avenue. This museum has outstanding exhibits and ongoing (though changing) exhibits. It has a rich African American theme throughout, which details the history of people in the area.
